Owning a dog can be a fun and rewarding experience, yet children are often unaware of the responsibilities involved. One way to help them understand the responsibility of dog ownership is by offering them educational books and material created especially for children.
Stories provide children with exposure to relevant issues from a safe and enjoyable distance. In the process, they gain a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them. What a perfect way to teach them how to care for their pets!

About the book, A Story of a Promising Puppy
A Story of a Promising Puppy is a heartwarming tale that shares the importance of being a responsible dog owner. Told through the eyes of a precious Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy, this delightful story will appeal to the hearts of children and adults. The Discussion Guide with Follow-Up Activities at the end of the book gives parents and teachers the tools to help children reflect on the commitment involved in having a canine companion. As the author, I was invited to read the story at my children’s school, (with the help of a promising puppy of course!). Thrilled with the positive response from the children, I invited friends who loved the story to look for opportunities to do the same, in their schools and community.
Below, you’ll see photos of Trina, a 3rd grade teacher, myself, and others who read the story. We were so excited to see the children’s eyes light up as they listened, commented, and asked questions. They learned that dogs are magnificent animals to be respected, cherished, and looked after with tender loving care. There is also a wonderful life lesson tucked within the story, which will encourage your children to believe they are beautiful, special, and loved! This book was also used at a children’s day camp to help promote responsible dog ownership. At the end of the day, each child received a book to take home in their goodie bag.

Slide show: A Story of a Promising Puppy was read to children in public and private schools and to the Girl Scouts. The children also learned the proper way to greet and interact with a dog. At the Girl’s Scouts meeting, the story was read to help them earn the Girl Scout Animal Helper Badge.
