About the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

This is a short summary about the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel to help you see what I take into consideration when choosing the right home for one of our pups. It will also help you determine if this breed is the right fit for your family. Please visit the links at the bottom of this page for more information about the breed.

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel comes in four color: Blenheim, Tricolor, Ruby, and Black and Tan. The Blenheim and Tricolor are referred to as “Particolors”. The Ruby and Black and Tan are referred to as “Whole Colors.”

Gay, friendly, non-aggressive, fearless and sporting in character, yet gentle and affectionate, are all qualities of a true Cavalier. These qualities are what make a Cavalier not only a perfect companion, but also able to excel in agility, obedience, conformation, fly-ball, therapy, and much more.

Cavaliers are amazingly intelligent, always ready to love you, and on top of that, they’re “wash and wear” [Grooming needs] .Unlike most toy breeds, Cavaliers are for the most part calm, quiet dogs whose favorite place is on a lap.

They do not do well left alone long hours, and are not meant to be kenneled outdoors. They need to be a vital part of their human family. When absent for extended periods, a pet sitter, dog walker, dogie day care, or other suitable arrangement is needed.

Each Cavalier is unique. Some are more lap dogs, others prefer to run and play all day. Some are more sporting and outgoing, while others are more laid back and prefer the sofa. Some are very small, close to 13 pounds, and others may be closer to 18 pounds [Breed Standard]. These, and other factors come into play when I choose a home for each pup. My job is to get to know your lifestyle, and then see which little one will fit your home best. Ultimately, I’m looking to find the BEST home to suite each of my pups. I pray the right home comes along, and wait until they do.

I’m thrilled when I receive photos and updates of our pups. Check out the Happy Homes page to see their photos and read their email updates.

Safety is Priority

Please read the following text quoted from the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club USA

“Cavaliers are active and sporting little dogs that require regular exercise. They have an instinct to give chase to just about anything that moves, and should either be on a leash or in a fenced yard or they will surely come to grief under the wheels of a car. Because Cavaliers never become “street-wise,” some Cavalier breeders require a fenced yard as a prerequisite for Cavalier ownership.”
