Taking our visiting dogs to nursing homes and to places where they can freely share their love has been one of the most rewarding aspects of dog ownership. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel breed is also known as the Comforter Spaniel, and they truly live up to their name! Enjoy these photos of our visiting dogs. The Primary Purpose of a Therapy Dog

The primary purpose of a therapy dog is to brighten someones day – to provide a moment of joy, and to distract them from their pain and troubles. Pet therapy is simply a way for me to share God’s unconditional love, healing and comfort with those in need. It is my hope that this information and the photos from our visits will inspire you to look into how you too can be involved.

Simple definition of Therapy Pets
  • The use of your pets to induce relaxation. For example, a certified therapy dog will work with a patient to provide emotional comfort and encourage a positive state of mind. The pet may ease discomfort and pain through its affection, play and presence.
Benefits of Pet Therapy

The therapeutic use of pets has gained increasing attention in recent years for a wide variety of patients -people with AIDS or cancer, children in hospitals, the elderly, and the mentally ill. Unlike people, with whom our interactions may be quite complex and unpredictable, animals provide a source of comfort and focus for attention. Animals bring out our nurturing instinct. They also make us feel safe and unconditionally accepted. We can just be ourselves around our pets. I have found that the presence of a therapy dog encourages people to open up, share their struggles, and smile. It’s truly rewarding !

Here are some benefits of Pet Therapy;
  • Reduces stress
  • Lowers blood pressure
  • Relieves depression and anxiety
  • Boosts your moods
  • Less medical care
  • Brings hope
  • Feel accepted and unconditionally loved
  • Add years to your life, and much more!

“It is the intuitive power of animals that can help us heal hurts, lessen stress, feel needed, and express our caring side.”  Marty Becker, DVM

 “Dogs are our link to paradise. They don’t know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring- it was peace.” Milan Kundera

 Which is the greatest commandment? Jesus answers . . .  ” Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”   – Mark 12

“Love never fails ” – I Corinthians 13
